[01] About PACT

An Interdisciplinary
Student Collective

PACT is a student organization at the University of Calgary built around the intersection of artificial intelligence, emerging technology, public policy, law, privacy, digital rights, and civic impact.

We exist because AI is advancing faster than the policies, regulations, and public conversations surrounding it — and students across every discipline have a role to play in shaping what comes next. PACT is the space where that conversation begins.

[02] Why PACT

Why This
Matters Now

AI is reshaping law, democracy, healthcare, and public life in real time — but the policies and protections surrounding it are still catching up. Students need a space to understand these forces and help shape what comes next.

// 01 · URGENCY
Policy Can't Keep Up
Regulation and public understanding of AI lag far behind the technology. PACT helps students understand this gap — and how to help close it.
// 02 · GAP
An Unmet Space on Campus
No existing UCalgary club focuses specifically on AI governance, digital rights, and civic technology together. PACT fills that gap.
// 03 · DESIGN
Interdisciplinary by Design
The biggest AI policy challenges require law, engineering, ethics, public health, and political science in the same room. That's what PACT builds.
// 04 · IMPACT
Students Have a Voice
Tech governance is being shaped right now. PACT gives students the skills, network, and platform to contribute from day one.
